Thread: Supporting a mk3 on jack stands.

    Supporting a mk3 on jack stands.

    What is the best way to do this? For the front my guess is put a floor jack under the front engine mount, then once lifted put jack stands where the arrows indicate on the rocker panel behind the front wheels.

    How about for the rear? Put a jack under the beam? Then jack stands under the rocker panels?

    I usually jack up the front from the front subframe, then yes, have the rockers sit on the jack stands. And as you said for the rear.

    My damn jack wont lift my dub high enough from the engine mount to be able to get my jacks on the hard points behind the front wheels >_<

    What i usually do is lift up a bit using the front crossmember, then put x2 stands on the ends. Then i jack up at the main subframe until im high enough to fit the stands on the rails.

    I know some of u haters might say that ill crush the front crossmember mounts but ive done it multiple times with no effect. Just go slow and itll be fine...

    Ditto. I use the chassis rails...mine are slightly bent from misuse from previous people anyway so even if I'm doing damage it won't matter much..

    I've avoided jacking the car up (wo having both front wheels off the ground) by the front crossmember for a couple of reasons:

    1) some people have had the front crossmember fail!!!
    2) its not a great idea to lift all that weight in the middle of a bean that is supported so far away from the centreline ofthe car

    Someone said it right - jack up far enough using the front crossmember that you can fit the jack a way iunder the main K bar, and use that.
