roof racks are one of those things i'd love to have all winter (for the board) but generally don't like the look of .. so i have never really been keen on spending the $$$

I'd love to see / hear about a set that can be removed / replaced easily .. and that dont leave unsightly mount brackets on my nice roof ..

Proper designed racks for the MK3 will be easily removed and put back on without any hastle and leaving no marks (as long as they arent left on the car for a rather long period of time).
Thule 404 are made for the MK3 (which I have a set of) and fit perfectly and come off in seconds with the allen key provided.

Thule 404/444 are roof gutter-mounted using clamps. Protects from scratching the paint (somewhat) as there's a layer of rubber. Could trap moisture and cause a bit of surface rust but nothing major. I have the Thule 404 and had it strapped on to Pedro's car over the weekend and we drove down to Melbourne with two heavy wheels on it, and drove around Melbourne with wheels and an Esky box. No dramas, and they actually looked good. Pics soon.

Edit: beat me to it Lorenz!

It'll clear for sure. I had my doubts but the sunroof doesn't even pop-up that high.

just put the back seats down and im sure you'll fit whatever you need to carry. I hate roof racks on cars with passion. IMO only 4WDs should be allowed to have them

Having roof racks is pretty handy though , a great example being the trips to the snow .. i'd rather keep the boards on the roof than try and squeeze them into the back .. plus with seat covers , putting the rear seats down isnt a very good option ..
