Nah dude definately something amiss, my car starts better/quicker warm. Sorry im not more of any help.
Hi,
the 94 golf gl has an annoying habit that it takes a fair bit of winding over to start when its warm.
eg, drive for 30 minutes, park for 20 minutes.. 20 seconds of starter motor required... then it limps around on 1 or 2 cylinders for a while, before coming good.
is there an issue there, or is this par for the course?
aprat from that, it runs perfectly, no blowing smoke or using excessive oil etc..

i've found that my car takes longer to start when the weather is hot and the car is cold (i.e. starting it on saturday mornings at 10am) but 20 seconds is definitely not good. I'd suggest taking it to a vw mechanic...

sounds almost exactly right.
Probably coil or leads.

yeah I've been thinking about the coil and your comment about it being original from 1994. Almost tempted to preemptively swap it out...
but not that I know anything about it all, but I thought a coil would just up and fail, not be intermittent. The symptoms match the page I've linked to exactly.
if it were a computer I could fix it.
