'ey guys.
As some of you may know, 2 and a bit months ago I cracked my oil pump and sump pretty bad and so took the car off the road for a while until I could afford new bits (finally moved into a real job )
Now in hindsight it probably wasnt very clever, but a lot of this time I didnt have the sump on or anything protecting the engine from getting dust or anything in there... I really dont want to cuase any excessive wear on the engine if its easily advoidable Is there a way I can see if things need to be cleaned, and if so, how would I do it? or am i worrying about nothing...
Also do I have to prime the new pump or anything? I think I read if you unplug the coil pack and crank it a few times thatll do it, but im not too sure.
Is there anything else I should look out for after having it sitting in the garage for such a long (well its not that long really, but to me it feels like a long time haha) time?
Thanks in advance.
Oh how I cannot wait to hear the purr of a vr6 again....

Disconnect the coil pack and spin it over with the plugs out, until the warning light goes off on the dash.
I'd probably squirt a bit of oil up the pump rather than leave it bone dry.

Thanks guys,
And yeah, working 40 something hours a week instead of the 6 i had been previously doing is going to mean the vr is gonna get some serious love in the near future
Edit: do I have to take the plugs out or could I just unplug them? Im still yet to take my plugs out as the special vw spark plug wire tool thing doesnt seem to fit over my wires and ive been scared of breaking them haha.

Good question...if i were you this is what i'd do.
If your engine internals have been exposed, dust and dirt, water condensation probably the only contaminents that have entered. I'd probably put a new oil filter, magnetic sump plug, new oil, engine oil flush, and give it a good hour run, then change ya filter.... cheap and easy
DRY PUMP: If you think about it, its not much different to doing an oil change, the pump sits in the sump in the oil there, it wouldn't be bone dry if its sitting there and immersed in oil, but if you could get some oil into it do that for sure.
Also probably flush the Radiator, settlement of sludge probably occured
Run the A/C for a bit for the A/C system & compressor life/oiling
Fuel injector cleaner
