    starter problems

hi, lately when i start the car, it seems to cut out straight away, and i know ur not surposed to rev it when you start it either, the battery light comes on when i put the key in along with all the other lights, and stays on for a little bit longer and then turns off, but it's always done it. could it just be the battery, or maybe the alternator.
How long does the alternator usually last? its a 96 golf with 81000 kms
    thanks

Does it cut out after 2 seconds, or can you keep it going if you blip the acellerator?

If it cuts out after 2 seconds, its probably the coded key losing its magnetism

If it just runs poorly when cold and splutters and uses fuel it is probably the choke control temp sensor.

if its no. one, then jiggle the key in the keyhole. or pull out and reinsert. repeat until it goes!
