Starter motor

So today kinda blows, my girlfriends auto golf's starter motor looks to have **** itself.
When you turn the key it just free spins as if it has let go - I'm not sure whether these are geared or with chain drive.

But has someone got a spare starter motor they wanna off load? Or ideas on what could be wrong?

I've got a manual one here. Not sure if they're the same. If they are, I can mail it up.

From what you're describing, it sounds like pinion gear that engages on the ring gear between the engine and transmission, has shed its teeth.

I've pulled it off and seems all good, I think it must be the clutch that engages the starter motor, like the action that pushes it out.
What's the details on the motor?
