    Speedo Drama's

    Hey guys and girls,

Just a quick question to see if anyone has come across the same issue's as I'm having currently.

My VR6 has just ticked over 300k km's, when it went to tick over instead of showing 300001 km's....It went back to 1000km on the odometer, it has been creeping up and is currently at 2251. I can't work it out, I have been into German Auto's to get it checked and they couldn't tell me what was wrong. Has anyone had these problems before?

    Cheers

All mk3 clusters do that. No fault at all. The speedo resets like you said and the writing 'total' that use to appear above your kms disappears. Everything is fine. I have seen some advertised with 'low kilometeres' but the total is gone. So what looks like a 90,000km car is actually 390,000 dodgy stuff

Ok so the German's failed on that front huh!

All good then, I was worried if it was serious, is there anyway to take it back so it shows Total and 300k km again?

    Cheers Anthony!

No worries mate, glad I could help.

Yeah was a bit of a design flaw I guess. There is software called VAG tacho that I believe is used to set the km's for replacement clusters to the km's on the engine although I'm not sure if it will restore the 'total' as I've never played with it. I wouldn't bother trying to restore the old km's just ad on whatever it shows to 300,000

Or you could look into a replacement cluster with high km's on it. Either way the cluster won't be accurate really.

Yeah not interested in doing that, I'll just leave it as is for the minute, its a bit of a basket case as it is, its the second motor in the car as the owner two back blew a motor in it, Lawrence from German Auto's put a new engine in it and sold it to me, the engine had done 40k kms less than the body so yeah it's going to be up to the new owner.

You can actually Google and find people who have video-ed their MkIII turning over the 300,000, and reverting to zero, less the word, 'total'.
    God knows why.
