    Spare key cut/made

So when I purchased the VR6 for the conversion, I only received one key off the seller. I would like to have a spare should anything happen and was wondering if I could use "any" blank key (eg a blank flip mk5 key) and put a T5 transponder chip in it and bobs my uncle?

    Cheers

Aren't mk5 flip keys cut internally compared to mk3s which are external mirror cuts? Not sure if it would work because the metal on a mk5 blank would be thicker and wouldn't have the appropriate grooves in it. Not entirely sure though.

Yeah, I'm doing more research and there are certain keys which are usuable if flip but in my case, not really worried if it's switchblade or not - just want/need a spare key.

Just another question, would a blank T5 transponder be my best bet for the chip?

You can do it. There's a company that make blank switchblades that you can get it done with. There's actually a DIY in the mk3 section somewhere for it. Think The_Hawk wrote it if that helps your searching

You're a legend Anthony. Thanks for that!

Also, if previous links don't work I believe and AH blank key is what we need for a switchblade. A few can be found on eBay but that's about it so far.

On the subject of keys. I did receive two keys from the owner and one had a plastic tag with "GOLF" written on it. I thought it was just a tag they put on so I cut it and threw it out...turns out it's important and is supposed to come with keys. What was it used for and what have I done?

    Hi all,

faced this problem with my Golf MK3 back in 2008.
Spent some time researching this, even bought blanks on eBay, but this didn't work for me.
I ended up going to Mr Minit in Chadston Shopping Centre and getting 2 copies, $30 each.
    They work even today.

The thing is, the blade needs to be coded (magnetized). With an ordinary blank cut, you'd be able to open the door, but won't be able to start the engine.

    Hope this helped,

    Alex
