    So its begun!

So Santa came a day early....and i had to pick up my gifts from the post office...and i had to pay for them myself...but they arrived christmas eve!
All my parts, minus the C2 chip, arrived!
    Block parts:
-82mm pistons from the euro VR6's with rings and pins
    -rod bearings
    -crank bearings
    -new main bolts
    -APR rod bolt set
    -gasket set

    Head parts:
    -Light weight lifters (12)
    -gasket set/seals/stem seals/injector orings
    -valve guides (12)
    -Autotech 262* cam
    -head bolts
    -2mm+ intake valves
    -2mm+ exhaust valves

    Other crap:
    -msd coil pack bracket
    -flywheels bolts, pressure plate bolts
-C2 chip (sent but not yet received)

I am stoked as! tryin to figure out when im going to actually get it done, but ive got about a week or so before i go overseas on the 10th for 3 weeks, so i reckon ill get the engine out and give it to someone (probably R G Baker at this stage, and if he isnt on holidays next week) to get them to rebuild the head and bore the block while im overseas.
Then when i get back hopefully everything goes well and ill be able to pick it all up at the start of the first week of February and chuck it back in that week and have it running by the end of the week so i can drive it to SEDF.
But thats only if all goes well, and since that never happens i imagine i wont be driving it to SEDF, but we'll see!

Ill try get some pics of parts up in the next day or so, when i work out the easiest way to.

yeah bigger cam, not too much bigger. just big enough not to lose any low down torque.
I had the chip set at 750rpm, which will be a little lumpy. If its too lumpy, i work at VW so have access to the computers so i can change it a little higher if it wont idle of runs too rough. Should be FUN!

I see...oh i knew it was a bigger cam, just thought with all the effort you would go a bit bigger to make better use of everything that's all.

The chip on fourseasontuning is listed at ~250 iirc, whats the prcocess involved with organising that??

yeah i know its about time haha! and yeah i was at knox! had just seen sherlock holmes with my parents (pretty good movie!)

reason i didnt go with a bigger cam was cos i want to go FI one day and ive read anything bigger than a 262 has too much overlap for FI. could have gone a combo cam like 264/268 or something like that but they cost alot more. 262 was best all round cam for the price with best overlap for FI that ive found
had actually attempted to buy that stage 2 supercharger kit that was on here a couple months ago, but unfortunately a nasty tax bill made it too expencive to do the rebuild and charge it at the same time. just bad timing, i REALLY would have liked that kit

had originally ordered the GAIC chip, but James from fourseasonstuning, said they didnt have a chip which matched the ECU number i gave him, but C2 did so got one from them instead. ive heard they are pretty good so why not! kinda strange since mk1turbo79 checked with GIAC when i was workin out costs and whatnot with him for the charger kit and they said they had a chip that would match my ECU number. maybe only one for a SC works but not regular chip. whatever, either way ive got a C2 chip on the way!

Just curious why didnt you source a Giac chip locally ?

Also why such big valves with such a small cam ?
What compression ratio are you running ?

Didnt bother tryin to get a Giac chip locally because i had looked a while ago and any local chips had been up in the 600+ dollar range. Now that you mention it, Tim wasnt a dealer back then so maybe he would have been able to get it cheaper...oh well too late now! either way it only cost a few hundred.

    Still at 10:1 compression.
Went with that Cam/Valve combo with the intent of gettin as much out of it as i could with still keeping it as open to FI as possible

out of curiosity. what ecu # do you have? C2 now have a UK arm which seems to have opened things up for us a little bit here.
