    And so the hunt begins...

Hey guys, my HSC finishes in 3 days and I start full time work in less than a weeks time so thus begins the hunt for a clean and tidy MK3. Leaning towards more a GL or CL (won't have the time or money for a VR even if it's in good nick) and will hopefully own one by the end of Dec or mid Jan 2012!
Went for my P's test today at SilverWater (bastard of an RTA), got 101/108 but where they took me there was little to no signage of a school zone, so I accidentally did 20k's above the limit haha. I'm not fussed, I've rebooked for Ryde next Wednesday so it's all cool.
Also, wouldn't mind help in searching and doing a few mods when the golf arrives; it would be greatly appreciated (:

    Cheers, Stathi.

edit: Yes, it has to be manual. Who drives auto these days anyway?

    Hi there,

For aesthetics i would go with a 2 door CL but the only problem is that the 1.8 motor is so gutless. Otherwise u cant go wrong with a GL, my pick would be the later ones without the textured bumper tops

GL with it i have owned 3 mk3's and nothing beats getting back into one!!

Depends what you want. If you like power windows and A/C get a GL. If you are like me and want it pov pack get a CL.

Bargain. The 2.0L pulls fine too.

Yh, I don't want anything pre-'96; not a fan of the black plastic on the bumpers! but thats the whole thing, I'm tossing up between a good looking 2 door or something that dad would be happy with (ABS, airbags, aircon etc) but at the end of the day, it is my money and I'll spend it where I want.

despite such a bargain, I want a hatch. Front end swap is on the "to do" list though.

I was in the same position as you, and still kinda of am, also just finished HSC I ended up getting a VR6, without really knowing what i was doing, just saw it, good size engine and what not and jumped..best decision so far, love mine, drives well and is actualy pretty good on fuel, i did have to spend some money on it, but all well worth it. Pitty im thinking of possibly selling due to overseas trip in december!

My CL has AC.... is it not meant to?

The 1.8 is a little gutless though, I wont lie. Not that thats a problem when you have a vr6 waiting to be dropped in

Think I might swap in power windows too (which a lot of people would actually think is going backwards, as the mk3 power windows fail all the time. As in like monthly.) Still, I feel like a peasant having to wind them down after having the power ones. Hah.

Swap some vr6 seats into a cl, realise you're getting literraly 2x as many kilometres out of a tank compared to the vr6 boys, and make a nice low and slow cruiser if youre on a tight budget 2 doors are just so much more sexy

    Good luck with it!
