How much did that cost you Science as I think I may need one aswell?
I think i killed a wheel bearing yesterday.
Its grinding so bad, i can feel it through the steering wheel.
I have orded the bearing, but i need to know, are there any parts or tools that i can't do this without? The bearing arrives on tuesday, so i will need to find out soon. Oh yeah, its a front bearing!

I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...
I have done this job on MK1s & a MK2GTI [ larger brg ] You will need specialized press tools & a press naturally, around 10 tons. I have some machines & was able to make the tools as per the workshop manual. Study the manual first to see how its done. You maybe able to remove the housing & then take to a dealer to have the bearing pressed. It's maybe possible to make up something using threaded rod & plates.
I am getting 1 front bearing on my mk2 done next week, I am going to change the hub as well just to be on the safe side
Its not the sort of job I would take on myself, so with labour it is going to cost about $230 at a authorised VW workshop
I think that pretty reasonable
Here are some details for replacing Mk1 front wheel brgs.

Its not a wheel bearing, it was a loose wheel!!!
All tightened now, and no more noise!
