it is meant to be a straight swap ( the euro lip ) i guess it all boils down to how well the aftermarket lip was manufactured, oem is the way to go but your looking at around $200 shipped from ecs
Nice car mate. I've also ordered one of those euro vr6 spoilers, so hopefully someone has an answer.
Mk4 gear knob looks good, does it have the silver/chrome around the base of the gaiter?

Yeah the gear knob does have the chrome surround. It was a bit of messing around to get it to fit, but if you look on the uk eBay there is someone who sells a very similar gear knob that is a direct swap for the original. They are going for around £45 and would be a better option.
I priced a genuine euro lip and it comes in around $265 so i'll most likely order one of those in the next couple of weeks. The guy at the dealership said VW had stock in Sydney too.

You'll need to modify the body of the car to accommodate the lip. There are tutorials floating around but I was too hesitant to proceed as it involves slicing the body of the car. Just FYI the lip fits differently depending on OBD1 or OBD2. Mind you I was never able to close that gap with either but the clips are a lot more snug on an OBD1 as it seems the body is a bit more narrow?
im pretty sure you may have your info wrong, as far as i know there is no difference in the way the lip fits whether it be an early or later mk3. There is some slight trimming involved if you purchased a euro lip and tried to fit it on a n/a (american) mk3 front bar but as far as the euro lips not fitting correctly on local cars i'd say it has more to do with the actual quality and workmanship of the product itself.

All polished up ready to get rained on : (
I hope the euro lip is just a case of bad fitting cheap crap! Not sure whether my car is OBD1 or OBD2 either. It's a may 1996 build. I could only find info on modifying a euro lip to fit an American bar too.
Ahh fair enough I only say that because I have both an OBD1 and OBD2 sitting in my driveway and the clips come loose on my OBD2 whereas on the OBD1 they're really snug. I remember matching the stock lips together and finding one to be longer but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to double check.
looks sooo good!
All euro front bumpers should be the same dimension. We have euro bumpers, so no modification should be needed. If it doesnt fit nicely its probably cheap quality.

I was hoping that was the case. I bought a cheapie because I thought 'how much difference can there be?' but obviously the answer is a lot! I'll have to sort a genuine one in the next few weeks then.
