If anyone is interested OEM Oil filter from McGrath Liverpool cost me $42.80

But for the exciting part! I got a replacement trim part for the drivers side, side skirt that was missing! At $7 it has to be a contender for one of the cheapest parts for a VR6

VR6 oil filters from Repco are like $28, and from MJM Autohaus (USA) you can get a pack of 5 OEM for about $60-70 including delivery.

Yeah, I found OEM oil filters overseas for about US$11 each.

As for the ones from Repco, they use Ryco filters, not the OEM Hengst ones which have been HIGHLY recommended.

At the end of the day it was the only part I needed so although it was more expensive, it's all good... And I got the missing trim piece which makes me happy

I have all the bits I need now, jacked the car up and had a brainwave...

Thought I might have a quick bash at the oil filter housing before I drain all the oil. Seems multigrips really dont work and I'm going to need a 36mm spanner. Glad I found this out before I drained all the oil

Problem is that no one seems to have a 36mm socket or ring spanner! Anyone know where I might find one?

Bunnings are out, AutoBarn are out, Supercheap are out. And by out I mean they don't carry them.

Lastly, anyone care to point out jack points on the Mk3 when using jack stands? I can jack the car up, but with only one jack point, where do you put the stand or where do you jack as an alternative?

    UPDATE!

A mate assured me Supercheap had them since he was sitting watching Bathurst with two employees, so down I went and no they dont

On the way home I stuck my head in AutoOne, the one place I hadn't thought about. The guy says no, but his other AutoOne 5 minutes down the road does... so at about 5 minutes to closing I got a 36mm 1/2 inch drive socket for $35

Looks like the oil might be changed under lights, but at least it's still getting done today!

And Done, new oil, new filter. NICE

The old oil filter was a Mahle, which didn't come out too bad, although it could only be 3 months old. The oil was nice and black.

The oil filter housing drain screw wouldn't come out, but oh well, just ment I got a little more oil on my hands.

For those that are interested this is the oil I used:

I now have to wait till either SuperCheap get more in or find another store that sells it so I have some spare for when it starts to run low.

Interesting... Went down to SuperCheap to get some more oil today so I could top her up. Seems the "Bathurst 1000 Special" price I paid of ~$40 was rubbish since I paid $39.95 today. Sadly I can't find the receipt to confirm... maybe it was $38.95 on that weekend. Bah.

Oh well, at $40/5L it's not all that expensive really for what is supposed to be a very good oil.
