    be changed??

hmm and while on the topic of auto oil..

what color should it be? the GL's auto oil is kind of brown. I always thought it was meant to be red or something.

I think I fixed the oil leak in my car today. $1 for an o ring to go around the base of the auto oil dip stick shaft. yeah, I like the $1 fix...

One of the first things I usually do with a new (to me) vehicle is to change out all the serviceable fluids, filters and leads. It was more of an issue with some of the older cars I have had that it is with the VR6, also the parts for a '79 HZ Ute are cheap.

The leads have dropped off the replace now list since they are so expensive and as you say most likely don't need to be replaced.

As for plugs, I'm currently bidding on a set on FleeBay, will see what happens.

    I HATE McGrath ...

Why oh why are they INCAPABLE of doing ANYTHING without a VIN number?

All I want is prices on the filters, leads and plugs. YES the engine matters for the oil filter, there are two different parts. Everything else is common. Would it really be all that hard to just give me both prices for that one part?

No, it's all too hard, they can't give me ANY prices without that number.

Please tell me there is another option somewhere close, hell, I'll order parts from another state if it means better service.

    ...

And all this because I don't happen to memorise my VIN number or carry it with me. It's my own fault really.

    [/RANT]

Any suggestions on who else can supply parts?

Much better. The bloke I spoke to from the Denlo Group was more than helpful. Even seemed to know what he was talking about rather than simply reading from the screen.

The parts are all labeled as VW OEM, so he doesn't know who actually makes them, but here they are:

    VW Oil Filter - $48.48
    VW Fuel Filter - $28.64
VW Spark Plugs - $39.05 EACH!

Now since we know the OEM plugs are NGK Grp 6 BKR5EKU and they are available elsewhere for about $13 - $15 a pop I don't think I need to get the VW ones

The only downside, they are only open Monday - Friday, so it looks like parts will have to wait until I have my next day off.

More for my benefit, so I don't have to look this up again later, they can be contacted on :

Just got off the phone from Imparts in Melbourne...
    http://imparts.com.au

    Oil Filter - $33.00
    Fuel Filter - $40.26
    Spark Plugs - $13.42ea

$11 Shipping (or I can drive to 6e/443 West Botany Road, Rockdale to pick up)

So not all that different really.

Interesting reading though on the Hengst website, seems the newer model oil filter gets *slightly* bigger. Have to wonder why they made the change.
