My cars only tend to get a service every 12 months since we put bugger all KM's onto them. Although both cars are daily drivers which get started and driven to the station/shops with occasional longer trips.

Maybe it's time to start doing these things more regularly...

Trans is meant to be for the life of the box.

This is true but also incorrect.
Life for VW, I have been told is "4 years"
Any time over that you need to be changing the oil.
