I'd pay $1000 for a rebuilder or up to $2500 for an extremely low mileage motor.
At those sorts of prices though it's nearly worth importing them from the UK.
Hey guys, Im a newbie. Just bought a SEAT Ibiza GTi Cupra and soon going to put a 20vt from a Polo GTi in it. Just so that i can get a rough idea, how much interest would there be in people buying the abf?? I dont think the mk3's came out with a 2.0 16v here in australia did they?? How much would a reasonable sale price on it be?? It goes pretty hard in the ibiza. I think you can get turbo kits, and even supercharger kits for them from UK and US.. or buy an exhaust manifold at least pre-fabricated off ebay... Just an idea.

They're worth more than what you'd probably get for it.
It is a pretty good conversion for mk 1, 2 and 3's though (except VR's)
you've just to got find someone that's after some more poke.
Also, it will depend on how much wiring etc that comes with it as to how much people will pay.
ie, if someone wanted to run an ABF on carbs, it would be about 1000 bucks for twin carbs (bought + reco'd) + a manifold, so there's a few things to consider when it comes down to it.
I personally would love to have an ABF in my mk 2! it'd be a hoot! but I'd want it on a full factory harness and and standard ECU/EFI. See the dilemma?

From memory, it's not just the ECU either. The clocks are coded to the ECU so you need those too if you're going to do an ABF EFI transplant.

Hmmm.. it appears that there is conflicting stories here.. My guy here in canberra thinks that the best option for me is to stick the 1.8 in the SEAT with an autronic or something else managing it... i think this is actually the best option as im going to put a GT28RS or something similar on the 1.8. So i dont need the clocks from the Polo to put in the Ibiza... though a VW dash and interior in an ibiza would look pimp...
What Pete meant was for a full conversion of the ABF into another car, you would need the clocks, immob etc etc.
Nothing to do with you swapping a 20VT in.
Why install a non turbo engine if you want to go down the turbo path?
The 1.8 20 Valve from the Polo GTi is turbocharged... I'm getting rid of the 2.0 16 Valve 'ABF' from the Seat and replacing it with the turbocharged 1.8.
In relation to the 'ABF' going into another car, won't a megasquirt or some other aftermarket engine management work?? Do you really need to rip the clocks and locks from the donor car??? to fit the dash from the polo into the ibiza ( I imagine ) would take a decent auto elec.. if one even wanted to attempt it... Ditch the Digifant or what ever stock ecu the 'ABF' is running.. especially if you want to play around with forced induction... I think a microtech or autronic or something similar would give you much more room to play with.. wouldnt it??
Speaking from experience itd be easier to sell your motor if you were selling it complete with entire engine loom, clocks, immobilizer and coded keys otherwise the buyer would have to source them from the UK (hard to find and $$$) or go full standalone as you suggested. Selling complete means its literally plug and play for a late mk2 or any mk3 car.
As for ECU options for you, digi3 is very limited since its got an internal maf sensor so you will definately have to go full standalone. Which one you pick is up to you. A talented auto elec might be able to get a polo dash running for you but no doubt it would be difficult. My vote would be to either do a polo dash swap with clocks so it looks awesome, or go the simple route and buy another set of ibiza/mk3 golf clocks and get them wired up (piss easy with diagrams).

Fit the VW ECU and have the immobiliser defeated, you can flash it like the donor vehicle then. It'll be a handful with a GT28 on it.
