The Renovations Continue - It's Shocking
The Golf needed new tyres, but I also wanted to refurbish the steel wheels. It was an opportunity to change the colour, but to what?
First, I took a spare set of wheels to Tyre Power to have the tyres removed. Then off to the sand blaster.

After blasting all the old paint and rust off the rims, they were taken to the Powder Coater.
We still hadn't decided what colour! I fancied a bright silver, Julia wanted steel grey. After 15 minutes of trying colour samples against the car & the rims, this is what we decided.

Gloss Black. The hubcaps were also painted the same.
Julia holds the rim against the wheel to see what it would look like. I wasn't convinced.

Julia then took the rims back to Tyre Power for the fitment of the Bridgestone G grid II tyres, 185/60X14.

It looks good! How much was the sand-blasting and the powder-coating (separate)? I got my factory 14's out again and did the "refurbishing" myself and have planned to spray them satin black myself once the weather gets better.
-
Sandblasting was $60 for the 4 rims.
Powdercoating was $150, including the hubcaps (which were sprayed).
Bridgestone G grid II cost $105 ea. All wheel weights are the type used for alloy wheels and placed on the inside of the rims.
All up $630. The sandblasting & powdercoating are so cheap, I wonder how they are still in business.
After the trouble to have them done properly, in the end I wanted them painted a different colour. Thought of red to match the car, but I thought those colour co-ordinated days are gone.
I may get the tyres done with a red wall...

i dont know by experience but the red walls wont last at all, i was reading a mag and a guy put blue walls on and he said it only lasted a day or 2 before it looked crap.
-
yeh you would have to have red coloured rubber manufactured into the tyre. that is how they do white-walls anyway. if you were to just spray them then it would come off.
