We think we have narrowed down the smell in the interior - its a combination of DOG and a horrible airfreshener product they use that is French or German and is supposed to smell fruity but it just overpowering and sickening. So I have pulled out the rear seats and am wondering will it do them any harm if I sprayed some upholstery cleaner on it and then used a Gernie? Nothing so powerful that it would rip the fabric of course, but will the water harm anything?

I honestly don't think it will affect the seats too much. If your really keen, head to your local supermarket and rent the rug doctor thing. Sucks out all the dirty stuff for like .. $30 ? and also maybe just some cleaning prodcut to clean it normally. Should do the trick. If not... no rears. Becauseracecar
Build and learn, not buy and earn.
Will possibly shoot water through into the foam inside and when you sit on it you will have that Oh dear did I do that feeling.
We bought some cars that had been flooded and it took 10 days in a drying room to get the seat squabs dry.
One dealer had some on the lot in 4 days and it didnt pay to sit on the seats LOL

Thanks for the replies. Did the Rug Doctor thing - went to Bunnings and hired it. You have to buy the products that go with it so all up cost was $58. Those seats really did have some yucky stuff in them - and now hubby is using it on his T3 seeing as I have it until tomorrow. Still cant get all of the dog hair out of the fabric, but at least it will be clean dog hair!
Will let you know if it beats the smell.![]()

Wont smell better till it dries Next step is get rid of the reason it stinks I guess.
OR you can buy covers like a boot bag for the rear seats that keep the dog (or the kids in some cases), off the fabric LOL

It's not the cloth that needs cleaning - its the foam that is acting like a sponge and is now festering in ooze!
it's pretty easy to pull the rear seats apart.
1) Pull the rear seats out
2) Unclip the cloth from the metal frame - the cloth edges have plastic strips that fold back up and over the metal frame. Pull one edge out and see how easy it is to replace before pulling the rest of the cover off.
3) put all the cover in a front load washing mashine on a gentle wash
4) hose the foam down and squeeae dry, repeast a few times - do not twist. let air dry for a couple of days. Do not put in direct sunlight incase the UV damaging the foam.
5) put it all back together. 1 or 2 of the plastic edges of the cover are a bit tricky these are the ones that have a wire bracing across the foam botom - just follow the bend in the plactic to tuck it in.
6) put seat back into the car.
