ive never replaced a second o-ring when doing a vr6 oil change. Is there one on the metal drain plug thats on the bottom of the oil filter housing?
while changing the oil in my golf vr6, i thought it was an easy task untill i got puzzled on the o-rings on the oil filter. there are two orings, changed the larger one, but cant find where the one in the size of a ten cent coin goes.... does anyone know? thanks

i cant release that drain plug though... it feels as if im goin to break that plastic casing. so does this mean that there isnt a need to change this second o-ring?
That is quite strange. I have only ever seen the o-ring for the filter housing, not a smaller o-ring. Quite possible it belongs to the oil drain plug on the bottom of the filter housing. If it has come out when you pulled the filter housing off the car, it's likely it was dislodged a long while ago anyway. And if the drain plug in the filter housing is as tight as you say, I would just put a new o-ring on the housing and put it back on the car.
I'm also going to have to assume its for the drain plug, although I have never received one in any of my kits. As you mention I cant actually get my plug loose either so it's not something I have ever worried about.
