problems with new key for MK3

so im having some issues with new keys i got cut for my MK3.

i picked up some blank key blades off ebay and got them cut, they open the doors work in the ignition (temporarily) however the immobiliser kicks in and the engine dies after a couple of seconds.

anyone know how to resolve this issue? bypass the immobiliser? im a noob so please be gentle.

does your old key have a chip in it for the immobiliser ? you may need to swap it over if it has one .

it probably does. i purchased a 'flip blade' key .. there is a load of space in it to put a chip..

the original key must be coded but i only have 1 key.. any way to duplicate them?

That i can't tell you , my VR doesn't have the chip so i never had this issue .

Someone on here should be able to point you in the right direction or maybe have a crack on google search .

i did a bit of a google search and have decided to bite the bullet and take it to a mobile electronics place and get them to install a keyless entry for me... they can install it for around $200 bucks. saves me the headache.

take it out of the key and place it somewhere inside the column near the barrel where it can be read ?

    save your $200

yeah, that is a part of it thats nailed.

ive also got a keyless entry flippy key thingie, i have scoped to the wiring diagram and there are a couple of tricky bits, decided to give it to some experts to do the install and see if we can keep the use of the immobiliser...

thanks for your help mate, appreciate it

Keep us up to date on how it goes, keyless entry with a flip blade would be pretty funky.

Also interested to know this, as keyless entry is much easier!

you can do it too! here are the ebay auctions:

eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

+ $19 for the key cutting.

a little bit of dremmel work on the blade to make it fit snug in the flippy keyless thingie...

if you are handy with electronics and your car does not have an immobliiser i reckon it would be a lot easier..
