....Did it actually work when you pressed in? lol
AFAIK none of the VR6 ignitions need to be pushed in to start the car.
Hello,
Today when trying to start my car, I was surprised that the engine did not crank over when I turned the key. After trying many times, I finally remembered the person whom I bought the car from saying something about pushing the key into the ignition.
The ignition seems spring loaded, is this a design of the car?
The first few times I started the car up, I did not make a conscious effort to push the key into the ignition.
Should I be talking to the mechanic about this?
Thanks

As long as it works when you push it in I guess it's not an issue but mine certainly doesn't require it.

It could be the chip in the key not making contact with the magnetic reader. Turn the key over and try the other way next time it does it, or try the spare key.
Or it can be the ignition switch on the back of the barell worn, try lifting the key as you turn it and see if that helps.

I tried everything as suggested. the car started when I pushed in the key.
The manufacture date for the car is 4/98.
Is it costly to replace the ignition barrel? I hate to have to wriggle the key each time I start the car!
ps. I dont have a spare key. car only came with one key! what am i looking at in terms of cost for a coded key?
