I would do all the seals on the thermostat housing while you're at it, and replace the crack pipe too.
Hey guys I'm gonna get my rear main seal replaced soon so I'm building up a list of things I should replace as well while the tranny is out. So far I've got throwout bearing, lower tensioner rail and lower guide rail (the upper parts were replaced last year).
Should I be getting this GermanAutoParts.com and anything else? Any other bearings, bolts, etc. BTW no signs of a bad clutch while driving so that should be fine..
Also, anyone know where I can find a shorter 3rd gear?
and a photo for your time
Thanks

if you'v done a bit of thrashing in the past, then do the clutch fork
check ur tranny mounts, ive been told that G60 ones are the way to go
if your gear changes arent as good as what they use to be, then probably change ur tranny oil (i think redline is the good stuff ?) and maybe some new bushes for the linkages
check ur cv's an boots
polish ur engine an tranny for WIN WIN
i hope others can chime in as im doin my clutch, engine an tranny mounts.

i knwo they aren't that cheap but while the tranny's off it can't hurt to replace the clutch too, you can save yourself doing it all again when she starts a slipping.

bOK1,
I need to replace the reverse gear in mine as it has a tooth missing and sounds terrible when reversing. Are German Auto Parts the place to shop for parts?
I live in Brisbane. Thanks for any info you can give me.
Jack
Yeh, they're awesome. Ordered a box full of parts and got them within a week. Send them an email to check the shipping cost, mine was very reasonable. Or check out OEM / Performance Parts for Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Mini, Porsche & Volkswagen - ECS Tuning and the site will give you shipping cost before checking out.
Thanks for the ideas so far guys
