    Power windows and central locking

Hi Travo here new owner of a 94 golf, I am having trouble with my power window on the front drivers side and the door lock on the front passenger side. When you activate the window you can hear the motor click ? then no action. The door lock has just decided to lock and as yet I am unable to open it with the key or from the inside. Apart from that it is a great little car (when I am allowed to drive it). Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Travo

The power window will almost certainly be the regulator has shyted itself. It's a common problem with our MK3's unfortunately. A fellow member on here "Golf Loon" has some for sale that will fit, send him a PM. As for the lock I'm not sure, if the key wont unlock it from the outside it must be something to do with mechanism itself. Maybe pull the handle out and see if all the linkages are still attached?

Power window going click will be the motor mate, and the door lock paddle that operates the microswitch in the door will be broken and held in the lock or unlock position. Remove the outer door handle and you will see what i mean. the paddle is attached to the handle and is very very common to breakage. New paddle will fix if this is the case . You will see what the paddle goes into on the lock module. In the rest position the slot will be at the 12 oclock 6 oclock postion anything other than that will be commanding the module to lock or unlock, this is so because u are operating a micro switch. MAte to be honest you can swap the door handles left to right all that it will change is you cant lock or unlock from the passengers side - EASY fix

ps just noticed you are talking about the left then check the same on that door if not module may be misbehaving

Id be inclined to agree that its a motor problem rather than regulator. And with the door lock its called an 'eccentric' and can be bought from a dealer pretty cheap ~$6 i think.

By the way there was a modified one you could by from VW - the hook was a thicker version, you also had to buy the base to accomodate it of course. Easy fix is remote mate
Back in the day we fitted Scorpion and Conlog alarms to all GTI and VR6 for insurance reasons in the UK so the lock was never used until the batt goes flat and in emergency the lock gets used and guess what --- SNAP!

When i went to vw they only sold the thicker one so u have to get the base too. I'd do the passenger side one while ur there as they are a pain in the backside since they are so fiddly!!! For $5 just for the eccentric its not bad esp from a dealer.

Thanks guys, can you still get the door handle off if you can't open the door. Also with the window motor can you get that out without removing the regulator.

If u cant open the door off ull have to take the door trim off so u can access the lock. The regulator must be removed to takethe power window out but it isnt hard, just a bit fiddly at times.
