I think a pod makes a better noise, CAI being the better option again. I did this:

a closed filter is better for your car, as a pod filter is open and will suck in heat from the engine bay. pods sound much better to me though lol...

100 bucks for a K&N for not much would be a waste. Investigate Hawk's setup, try modshack (rennenhaus sohuld be able to get you one), carbonio do one for our cars, get some custom staino piping made up to extend as far awayh as possible with the K&N pod (make sure its dry) and then make a shroud for it to go legal.

I went the K&N panel filter with the modded airbox. I made an opening in the bottom half of the airbox facing the fender/headlight. The gain was in dB, not kW, but really it's foolish to expect a power gain from just an intake mod.

Search function will help mate. There ar a couple of threads in the technical section about the topic.

There are probably 5 build threads in the first 2 pages of this part of the forum with questions/aspirations on what to do.

See Killz's thread fro going big NA power (big $$$ but very very cool)
Dubsteve went NA, but going charged
    Shteifen NA
Mk3 Pete NA but oging charged
Me, NA atm but going turbo later
    Mickey, NA but charging later

    Do an R32 swap
