i bought a spare one from this dude
Lame DE Pare Choc Spoiler Noir VW Golf 3 Type VR6 Neuf | eBay
its the cheapest ive seen anywhere and looks the same
Just done a bit of things here and there to make driving this a little bit more fun. Car was missing speakers all round so fitted the speakers in the car that i had spare and also the headunit finally got in after awhile and cleaned up the wires in the dash.
Car's water reservoir wasn't working and pumping out water so i found out it looked like this;
So i hopped down to my mates place where he was wrecking the same car and replaced it!
Also got to do a fender roll at his as he had one spare ! lucky for me !
During a few weeks ago i got a nice little package and got myself one of these. Chrome Intake Cold Air Intake.
Custom made for the VR's and finally installed it last weekend. Took me a long while with some research relocating the charcoal canister to fit the CAI and found a litte bit of metal piping to make it match up.
Also picked up a set of replacement hubs and axles. My current ones LHS Abs ring is bent and removing it may cause trouble with the currrent axles so the replacements are here in case. Only thing is i have no idea how to do this, and also don't have much time only a bit on weekends.. So this should be interesting..
Also when i picked it up it was late i noticed that the rubber mounting on one was ripped.. Will this affect the use of it ? as the bearings and all will be exposed? would be good to know !
Also this.. Till next update. Should be fun !

Replace the CV boot its a MUST. They are like $20.
Good stuff mate!
The 'rubber' part is a Constant Velocity or CV boot. It protects those 'metal parts' which is called the CV joint from dirt and rubbish (plus stops the joint spitting it's grease all over the place). Just grab a CV boot kit for like $30 and chuck it on (may also be a good idea to put some new grease in). Then you'll be laughing.
Also, if it was like that for a while when on the donor car then the joint itself may be stuffed too. You can tell if the joint is stuffed normally when you turn full lock at low speed and it keeps going clickity clack haha :p
Edit: It appears I've been beaten to it while writing. Manyfor your keyboard prowess.

as per above.
But it looks like it might have been dry a while... id be worried about the CV failing
Would highly recommend doing all of them while theyre out. They look fairly old and they're a pain in the arse to do if they're installed. Take it apart and repack with grease and you will be saving yourself a heap of trouble in the future.

I forgot they were called cv boots haha derp. Would it matter which kinds ? I'm looking at easiest accessible for now as uk ebay would be the best friend.
Yeah definitely. Will be taking a crack at this using this diy on vortex;
VWVortex.com - DIY - Blown CV Boot Replacement and inspection
VWVortex.com - Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement DIY
But at the end of this all i need is the abs ring that was "supposedly" the problem as been checked from a blue slip. Should i just take the hub only and replace it or the entire hub with the axle ? At this stage looking at the DIY, i think i might take it to a shop and watch and learn there as i don't have the tools to do this thing as of yet. The CV boot easily but it seems their is more to the Hub/axle. Anyone care to teach ?![]()

Doesn't matter too much which boot. If you just want to pass the blue slip then I'd say just swap the hubs.
The hub should come free of the drive shaft if you take the split pin out and undo the big nut in the middle. An air impact gun would help as you'll have a hard time doing the one that's off the car. The one on the car you could just use a breaker bar or socket with a pipe on the end if you need more torque.
Then swap the hubs and see the blue man![]()
