It may be Tornado Red. I will have to research. The trouble is there are two dates on the car, 1995 & 1996. Apparently the colour changed around this time.
Love your red Mk1.

Forget about compliance plate date as that means nothing.
The colour is Flash Red....
Gooday. Thats a nice looking CL. No doubt it will end up cleaner than when it left the factory Maris, if your T4 is anything to go by! Are you coming to Tas for the Bug In next easter?

Holidays are booked for the Bug-In. May be taking the Golf to Bug-In and to Melbourne DOVW show. Peter & Pat Curran have also bought a red Mk 3 Golf GL, so a little competion already.
With these high feul prices the Golf with be more economical, we've already got it down to around 8 litres per 100Km (34/35MPG) on a trip.
Still much work to do to bring it up to the T4's standard. The difference in having a car from new. Already cost us over $500 to fix some issues, and still another $1800 to get it up to scratch.
I spent 2 days just on the wheels & under the guards before our Bug-In at Easter. Might show a couple of before & after pics.
