Mine clocks up 850km a week!

Jeez I was gonna say... Its a bit of a shame isn't it? I feel bad about my car which does 5-6k a year. Is it like your weekend car? I can't see how you can justify the costs of owning a car only to do 20km a week in it...

I've done 6,100km in 10 months, which works out to be about 7,320km a year or about 140km a week.

Thats quite reasonable considering you don't drive your car to work.

Ah fair enough, I do alot of driving on weekends and in the nether regions of the night, but don't have to drive to the station fortunately, I walk

I'm pretty sure I'm also the fourth owner of my VR. Last owner who I picked it up off didn't have it too long, but he had it long enough to replace a few of the parts that needed replacing....minus the tensioner/chain, heater core and now my clutch (DAMMIT...$$$) but I love my car to bits, I believe I could honestly say some of that parts of it I've restored to better than new condition, and it will be the same for any car I own because I love owning things in pristine condition. Of course, it doesn't mean to say I keep it that way...the k's don't come out of nowhere!

But hey what I keep hearing is 180,000km is good for a '94 VR. she still pulls like a train, minus a slipping clutch

Once you finish with it the car will most likely bet better than the car was 5 or more years ago, I know my golf is in the best shape it ever will be and thats because of the effort I went to. But in the end Mickey, you might spend close to to 4k on repairs but can you really get a car as good as the one you will have for an all up of 12k or so? Probably not? More like absolutely not.

I was looking at a Mk4 with only 20k on the clock. I'm very envious of the owner and would love to delete the extra 100k mine has racked up. But, I don't add many k's to it. I only have to work 3 days a week and I'm a 10 minute drive from work (I think it's 12kms) so my Km's have significantly decreased. Still 125k for my age car is low considering my car is one of the first Mk4's.

At the end of the day, I dont intend to sell the car because I wouldn't get back any where near the $$$'s I have invested in it. That investment is purely for fun, they were never intended to give financial returns.

A car with more k's thats driven daily and is maintained on a regular basis is hugely better than a garage gnome with low k's. Rubber disintegrates, wires frail, and plastic is brittle. I remember looking at one VR6 with 50k on the clock, the car had 3 services in 11 years and nothing else had been changed Imagine the VAG com check on that...

I think the only thing that suffers the most in the end is the interiors and the paint-job everything else can essentially be readily replaced.

Pfft 125k, that isn't much considering the level of care the car is getting and will get in the future.

Yeah I'm hoping the paint can be touched up soon...Damn I envy you Steve! And Branko....if I spend 4k on repairs, then my car will have taken only 10.6k away from me I picked it up for a steal

I think I'm going to have to face some repairs soon, even though I've just started my mindset of more modding than I will be able to afford the clutch is not far from karkin' it and I think my tensioner may be getting that way too.
