Don't know that I have ever had one

From what I have been told this is a commonly broken part with most people bypassing it rather than fixing it

Your car is OBD2... The "muffler" is only on the OBD1 cars....

connect to the idle control valve directly to the air throttle body adapter/distributor.

you're blown up part was the connected between the idle control valve and the intake hose right? so find some nice new rubber hose from supercheap or some such place thats the same diameter, and run it between the idle control valve and your intake, thus "bypassing the old plastic box that once was....

    easy peasy.

Some kind of hose clamp would be required at each end I assume?

Yep, the silly bugger who started up and effectively blew up part of my car gave me two hose clamps lol
Going to a hardware store tomorrow morning first thing so i can get a hose to drive to mechanics...but i never thought of supercheap or repco..could try them maybe.

I wouldn't be going to a hardware store you'll probably end up with garden hose, go to Repco or Supercheap at least you'll get automotive quality hose.
