This would give reason to why there was 10-60w in my car when I bought it.

MattyT: how often do you need to top off your oil? As a thinner oil it should burn quicker meaning it needs to be replaced more.

I would usually use a higher weight oil for that reason. Will see how the 40w goes in the VR6 otherwise I might try something a little hevier next time.

Interesting question! With the 10-W60 (Agip) it ate oil like no tomorrow. Had to add about 3 litres over 3 months before getting it serviced and putting in 10-W30. Since then, only topped up once in 6 months.

Now this is probably placebo, but it doesn't feel like the engine revs as freely now with the 10-w30 in it

I very nearly bought Motul 4100 Power today while at repco, only thing that stopped me was the price, $94!!

The same reason I was hesitant, although I didn't think it was quite that much.

I went to a bunch of places looking for the Fuchs oil only to find no one carried it. I was ready to just go and get something else, and being that I was watching Bathurst and they kept mentioning the SuperCheap 1000 sale (funnily enough), I went down to have a look see and stumbled on the Fuchs:

At $40 it was a pretty good price considering the prices of other synthetic oils, that and it's supposed to be a "performance" oil. Oh and it's "German Technology"! I wasn't swayed at all by all the little Fuchs stickers in the V8's I swear!

It will all come down to how often I have to top up if the oil is burning away. I remember in my old Type III Fastback everytime it was serviced by Vintage VW the oil would burn away in nothing flat, I'd then tip in some (virtually replace the whole lot) Castrol GTX2 and would be all good from there out. The right oil really does make a difference.
