    Oil Filter question.

    Hey guys,

I have a question regarding the oil filter for my 95 vr6. It’s due for an oil change so im after a new filter, Autopro was useless and couldn’t tell me what was what.

So im looking for some one that sells the right one for my model, will this one fit?? http://www.dubaddiction.com.au/index...products_id=25
After having a search through the forum im not sure if it will?

Im guessing this question has been asked a thousand times, so sorry for any inconvenience.

    Ben

    Hey Ben,

The easiest way to tell if DubAddiction's filter fits is to pop up your hood and look at your engine code. I think it's with the VIN number on a metal plate but I can never remember these things if there's AAA at the start of it then yes it will fit. I'm pretty sure all VR6's with textured trim and wheel arches are AAA anyways, but someone might be more right than me

The VR6 has two types of oil filter.

Earlier ones (like the one you linked to) had metal ends, in mid 96 they changed to plastic ends and a slightly different sized filter. So engine numbers starting with 176890 (and later) are the later type, anything before that is the earlier type.

Yours being a 95 there is a good chance it's the metal ended filter type.

It is HIGHLY recomended that you get a Mahle or a Hengst filter and not the Ryco "equivalent"... and change your oil regularly:

Mickey, all VR6 engines are AAA, regardless of what filter type they use.

Thank you heaps guys, very useful info.

Yes the DubAddiction one will fit. Which is great seeing repco was going to charge me $32 for one (is this a normal price?).

As for a ryco filter I went through there book and don’t remember seeing a oil filter?, the only thing they had was a fuel filter.

    Cheers Ben.

Yep, and I pay VW $54 for my first genuine oil filter before I knew better

Oh I thought it was the code for the OBD-I/older type VR's.
