Seems you have a number of issues with this car, Plan B would be to find a decent mechanic (who knows a little about VW's) to have a look over it for you.

List all of the ones you know about and see if you can get someone who knows what they are doing to have a look see at the beast and put them into a priority order for you. You should be able to find someone who will look over it for free and give you some advise, although it may mean leaving it when them for a day rather then demanding on the spot free advice.

Yeah it's a bit unfortunate, many little things pop up again and again. That's the way, I'm told...damn money pits.

Hmm...well as i said, Steve N will do the service on sat, I'll make sure I bring up all the possibilities you've all mentioned to me. I'm bringing her on Sunday, so I guess I might ask nicely if loon etc might like to pop their head under the hood to see if anything is noticeably wrong
