    that's nuts Matt!!

Is there any way to test the leads guys? If not, they're not too expensive to replace so I can get new ones anyway..

Poor hot water down where the leads are and see if they spark, thats what I would do, other than that pull them out and see how crappy they are.

i dunno about pouring water down there! but yeah at night time start the car pop the bonnet and have a look down each hole as the engine is revved. I had a problem with a cracked lead and the car would struggle at 4000rpm +
If the spark is leaking you can see it. Its quite pretty until you realise how expensive a set of leads for a VR6 is in australia.

Also you can test leads with an ohm meter. Cant remember how much resistance they should have. But google it. You should find a figure somewhere

If the leads are leaking then you will be able to see arcing on the manifold.

Great idea. When I find the time I'll have a look around and might talk to some people. If I get good pricing etc I'll post up a thread in group buy

I replaced my set, mainly because I could rather than because I needed to:
    http://www.germanautoparts.com/Volks...formance/250/5
    US$93.71 + shipping

I don't know that you would beat that price but I AM sure you can get enough people who want parts from them to organise a single order to save on shipping costs.

Yeah in reply to the above leads are over 10 years old in them thing now. High resistance in leads causes big dramas and you cant see it unless you have a n oscilliscope connected.
Go the Leads man and on capped engines change it too itll be full of carbon and the spark will be trackin all over the place
