And now it's the starter motor

So I resolved my issues with the throttle body on my mk3 CL 1.8L yesterday. And today my wife calls me and says that the car is not starting. Sounds like the starter motor is engaging for about 1/4 turn of the engine, and then it is slipping out and spinning freely.

I am guessing that this kind of starter motor has a Bendix and it is a bit too worn. I have sourced a second-hand starter, but is there anything else I can look at in the mean time?

As a second question, if it is the flywheel teeth how much do they typically go for and how much effort is involved in changing them? I am expecting evil on both counts.

I have a flywheel $40 but it could be your battery is just too low to operate the starter
