    New member

Well, I guess I'm not such a new member, I've been around since Feb, just looking around.

And all this looking around has started me on the path to improvement. After numerous coolant leaks, weird suicides of 2 instrument clusters when attempting to join coolant hoses together (heater core was another expensive problem), dead A/C compressor, worn bushes, pancaked strut top mounts and crunchy gearbox - can I think of anything else - I think that I have been well initiated into the VR6 community.

I bought the car in Jan 2007, and while there have been problems, the deep bark is too intoxicating; I think she'll be staying with me for a while yet.

Here it is, nothing too special:

I have just a few questions though

Why are these cars so unrecognised? People always ask
"What kind of car is this?, is it a Pulsar?"
    "No, its a Golf..."
    "Oh"
"With a V6 in the front (really VR6)"
    "OH!"

Also, I'm getting coilovers installed in the next week, what are your experiences with them?

Well, I hope to see all you fellow Vdubbers sometime soon.

Welcome malteser! A local I'm in Merrylands.

I think your story is very familiar around here, unfortunately. Then again, they're 10 year old cars! Awesome cars may I add!

I think the problem with our cars being relatively unknown is because of their prices, when buying new and maintenance-wise. If you check Redbook, these cars were sold for quite high prices back in the day, and servicing + cost for parts are generally more expensive than your average Jap car. However to me, the ambiguity surrounding these cars are a good thing! An enthusiast loves nothing more than a sleeper!

What coilovers did you get? I just installed mine into my GL and they ride great! Ride's firm and roll is reduced. One of the must-do mods since most suspensions on our cars have usually passed their best-before date. Make sure you get your alignment done too. As with ride height, beware of your oil sump.

    Well, thanks very much everyone!

I'm getting KW "Last Editions" fitted by Seb at EuroAutomotive; very helpful.

Luckily the window regs are just fine - for now

I look forward to becoming more involved with VWw

The Hawk gyrates frantically round his VR6...

It may cost more to run, it may cost more to repair, but WOW is it fun to drive...

ahoy hoy malteser.. bite or suck? Was anyone else thinking that??

I too love the VR6 bark.. that was the sole reason for me wanting to buy one.. But they're too expensive (for me atleast), so I got a Mk 1 instead. I don't know much about VR6's and newer golfs, but plenty of fold here do, so you're in the right spot!

    Anywho, welcome
