Hi guys,

I'm looking into buying a 1998 2.0L CL (did they offer an optional motor upgrade because it doesn't have any GL extras like power windows etc) mk3 golf. Anyway I've driven it and it feels great and has done 170k. Idles better than my dads 2007 2.0L FSI!! It hasn't been modified at all and still has the original radio etc. So I guess I have a couple of questions for the geniuses out there (Most important up the top):

1) Brakes seem very soft. You really have to push the pedal quite far in to get a good response from them. THis normal? Or is there an issue I'll have to deal with? If so how much can I expect to pay for pads, fluid etc?

2) Bottom Windscreen seal has deteriorated significantly. This seems to be a common problem on the ones ive had a look at. How much for a new one? Any cheaper fixes?

3) No logbooks... However the seller claims there was only one elderly owner before him so i suspect they are locked away in the glove box that cant be opened. The latch has actually broken off, is there a way to pop it open with a screwdriver? Where can I get a new latch?

4)Drivers Window handle clunks when you wind it down. Any ideas?

5) Hoodlining is falling down. How much to replace it?

6) Can you get spare keys for them? If so, how much and from where?

7) I think its due a major service... Can I do this myself/ who should I get to do it for me and how much??

How much is a towbar/ roofracks? I sail and windsurf so need the ability to trail and chuck on my sails/ board.

Sorry that there are so many question but they are all part of the process I guess!

Appreciate the help guys,

Max
