New guy with gear box issues.

    hi guys,
I recently bought a white MKIII 2.0L. (ill post some pics when i get access to a camera) but,

Sadly my MKIII hit some issues last night. Something, most likely a tooth by the looks of the shards, broke off inside the gear box, cracked the casing, and left me stuck between two gears (has since slipped back into gear). Im after any help i can get: schematics, advice, shops worth hitting for parts, compatible gear boxes. Any help is definently appreciated.

Only been a day and i miss it...

Its cheaper to get a replacement 020 gearbox and just change the fluid while ur there. Good time if u need to do a clutch as well, u can prob pick a box up for $400 or less.

Sounds like the dreaeded SMS (self machining syndrome). This is caused by the Diff rivets giving way.

Cheapest option is is buy a seond hand box I'm afraid.

Where abouts are you located? There could be someone nearby who can help.

Plenty of good 020 gearbox technical info at http://www.brokevw.com/

Yup a replacement gearbox is the easiest answer. Dunno where Pedro can get em for for $400?? I sell second handies from $650 up to $1200 for a refurbished, up to $1800 for a fully rebuilt jobby.
