go to supercheap and get a pair of there long long needle nose pliers, and grab the lead by the metal casing.

    works a treat!

So what would/does happen when someone takes their car to their local mechanic for a routine oil change and they try to check the plugs?

I have been looking at the cost of leads and it's not something I would think a mechanic would want to be out of pocket for on a ~$100 service

Probably tear their hairout trying to get at the plugs

The plastic plug puller thingy is a peice of crap. Heaps of aftermarket joints make an all steel version, much nicer.

My dad made me a spark plug puller that works really well. Look at my thread titled 'Spark Plug Puller'
