Hi all,
This is for a friend of mine... they have a 98 MK3 Golf Cab and the trans is flaring b/w 2nd and 3rd and a lot in first... My trusted mech looked at it and said that yes, the gearbox is indeed cactus and needs to be replaced.
new / reco ones are rather expensive so i was looking around for a 2nd hand one, rang the usual wreckers and they have no stock of the DLZ. I did some looking around on the net and found that
Fourtitude.com - Will CLK work for a CLB ? or the other way?
GROUP 1
CLA/CLB/CLK/CKX/CKY/CKZ/DLL/DKR/DKS
GROUP 2
DLV/DLW/DLX/DLY/DLZ/DMA/DNR/DNS/DNT
Any group 1 trans can be swapped with a second group 1
any group 2 trans can be swapped with a second group 2
Does anyone have experience on that advice? as If I 'need' a DLZ it may take a while to find one, but i can use any of the 'group 2' ones then the job will be somewhat easier (even though i appreciate that the ratios might be different)
Any advice / direction would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Aaron

If you're in need of any 6n1 parts, odds are that I am going to have them (dismantling 2 at the moment)
There are 2 basic kinds of Golf 3 2L automatics, one has a dipstick one does not.
Under the starter on the front of the box you will either have a dipstick or a red plug.
You can mix and match the codes, but you must keep to the type that you have, either dipstick or not.
