    The vw window regulator

    The many issues vw caused with plastic components in window regulators the window regulator works with a motor that is known for internally shorting causing this item to be replaced $$$ {fault number 1} bolted to a door skin this motor has splines {plastic splines} so vw can make money on both items when this item chews the splines away therefore charging out a new motor not cheap, defined as wear by vw {fault number 2}
this splines into a regulator the reg consists of an internal winding of wire with a {plastic retainer} that is the common cause of the problems listed above and below as the wire groves into the plastic and makes ridges causing it all to bind up {fault number 3}tensioned up the window brackets that clip onto two side guides brackets commonly {plastic} so when fault 3 binds up it snaps the window brackets which are plastic and at this stage brittle so vw can make money on the replacement of this item then recall item after 2 generations of golf mk3 mk4 {fault number 4 } to put steel brackets hmmm

my driver's window makes some clicking noises, and goes up and down alright, with a few jerky spots.

The owner pointed it out to me, reckoned it needed a new cable.

    what do you think?

Is there anyway of fabricating metal regulators? if not is there anyway of repairing the old/broken ones?

2 of my windows are clicking/clunking too....how long before they give up?

hi guys - this recently happened to me (drivers side window)- scared the **** out of me...

I have been quoted around ~$450-500 to fix it, but i dont know if there is more than one problem or if its just the regulator... how much should i be paying with parts/labour? I played around with it a fair bit so i dont know if i really stuffed it up?

    cheers

when i say played around with it a fair bit - i kept pressing the button up and down and heard a crackingish noise. cheers

Na mate you will be fine with the reg, unless you overloaded the Motor, but im sure its ok. The only thing is when the window drops it can mark the tint.

U can source window regulators from the US for about $70 each. The motors you have to get second hand and cost about $100-150 from euro wreckers (with warranty). If uve got time and fairly handy u can tackle it urself its not that hard once u give it a go but it is a bit fiddly and requires some patience. It can be done solo too if u need help let us know

I replaced my reg in the passenger side front a few months ago, it seems to be scraping against the outer rubber as it comes up now (makes a loud scraping noise), is there any way to adjust the way the window sits in the clamps? It seems to be leaning too far outwards

Sorry guys ive posted in another thread before about this, but how can I tell if its regulators that need changing?
I can hear a slight clicking sound like it is trying to work, could that mean its something else entirely?

    * My drivers window is dead as it wont open via switch or the remote (using the key on the outside)

    * My passengers will work from the passengers switch, but does not come down on the drivers side control, but will go up using drivers side control.

    Any ideas?

Anyone in Sydney able to help me fix ? Happy to pay for the job
Just dont want to get ripped anywhere else

    cheers
