My VR6.. Well, see/listen for yourself?

Okay so I was coming back from an awesome feed (sushi train, SO DIFFICULT to spend more than 25 and not feel packed to the brim...) and everything was peaches. Then, at some point on the way back, my car started losing power every now and then accompanied by a bit of a rattle whenever it did so. Once power was restored, the rattle would go. I pressed on, not thinking toooo much of it yet. Then, it got progressively worse. The loss of power and rattle became permanent, and slowly the idle level would drop and the motor would idle rougher and rougher.

I tried giving it a bit of throttle at a set of lights, to see if that would bring it up a little bit, and was greeted with a WRX-like rasp and still no improvements. Figuring that I've lost the firing of one or more cylinders, I pulled over and let the thing idle for a bit. Popped the bonnet, really couldn't see anything strange (mechanical noob sez hai), so that's when I decided to pull my phone out and record the following:

After the car died, it started pissing down rain so I got under cover until it stopped. Once the rain weakened, I went back to the car to try start it again. It would catch, but quickly stall before reaching full idle. Tried it twice more, gave up and rang mum to pick me up

Ideas? VW Village is about 10 minutes away from where the car is stranded, I'm thinking of getting it there and having them check it out.

sounds like your timing is very out. See if there is a crank angle sensor. But it also sounds like there is piston slap :S Check your oil color, check to see if its milky or has petrol in it.

Definitely check the coilpacks especially if the problem goes away when its dry and comes back when its wet.
