sick ****. Love it
Hi guys.
Most of the regulars know that I got myself back into a Mk3, this time around it's a variant. I had a Mk3 before (my first car) and it was a canvas for me to experiment with, which eventuated in good and bad outcomes:
I ended up wrecking it, and ever since then I've always wanted to get back into one, so when I saw this Japanese-imported red variant for sale, I jumped on it (minus the Rotas).
Besides the wagon boot, the best aspect of this car was its interior; although being a GL (2L auto), it had VR6 seats, an updated white background cluster and factory sunroof.
Three of my mates volunteered to help me drive it back from Adelaide to Sydney, so we hopped on the earliest flight on the Saturday and drove it 14 hours straight, only stopping for fuel and nature calls. It didn't miss a beat, and did it in relative comfort (the cheap coilovers already installed made some road dips a bit rough but it was bearable). We had some hairy moments, including coming across a fox that decided to sit in the middle of the road and a roo just having a light skip on the opposite side of the road, and the heavy fog when we were passing from Gundagai to Goulburn, but we made it in one piece.
First order of business was to register it in NSW, so went for a blue slip. Only issue was that the previous owner had cut the rear muffler off without welding on a piece of pipe to extend all the way back to the bumper.
I couldn't stay with the random 14" wheels so I bought a set of Work Equip 03. Only 15x7 currently but once my other set of wheels are done, I'll have them widened further.
VW Nationals was around the corner so I had the fronts lowered in line with the rears and gave it a quick wash.
(Thanks to Jordan for the photo)
So, that's where I'm at currently. Next will be some bodywork; really want to do a Vento front, then get it resprayed along with a couple body mods to get it looking nice and clean. EOFY is around the corner so it shouldn't be long until that happens!
sick ****. Love it
