Peedman, thanks alot for the offer dude, i am going this boxing day to the central coast to chill there for a few days and im going to look at another VR6 too...probably too far for you!
Davignon, the VR6s are prone to aircon unit failing, I have no idea what it is, but every single VR6 i have seen for sale has buggered aircon...maybe the units are just a weak spot on these cars.
Ciccca, thanks for your help guys, I really appreciate it, If you guys know any VW enthusiasts that would do the timing chain for me when I get mine (assuming it would need doing) then that would be awesome!!

    Cheers boys and girls.
Yeah bad timing as im working 24,25,26,27,28th but like i said, if u need a hand in the new year let me know

If you want a good place m & j auto in guilford is good (ive used them twice for 2 diff cars) and it costs about $750 for a rebuilt compressor or $900 for a new one inc. labour, regassing and new condensor.
Ahh right cheers for that, hope its just gay, other wise im goin without A/C for some time :\

If your AC is working, USE IT! Running the AC regularily (even in winter) seems to keep everything ticking along longer.

Keep in mind, even if you buy yourself a mint looking vr6, dont be suprised if something expensive breaks and needs replacing

I thought I got a bargain (and i still do) on a very clean, completely original, 90000km with a service history showing services every 5000km, ac cold enough to give frost bite and heater hot enough to melt the plastic vents, 4/4 windows working, ect. Still had to fork out well over a grand at its first service to fix up a problem with a leaking fuel rail or something amongst other little things. Not a cheap car to run, but worth every cent in my mind

yeah I am already calling mine the black hole - i.e sucking my money away! But they are a fun car to drive and in a way a good car to mod, you don't feel so bad spending money on upgrades when they usually replace played out old parts on the car already!

when you dont use the air con for a good while, say during winter the seals dry out
then when you go to use the ac again when its hot the seals die and your left with a dead one

Yeh pete, this is a common problem in a lot of cars, I have had air con problems in other cars with seals gone bad.
