    Cheers for the replies
The headlights are the Morette ones and i would like to get the big lip splitter back on but the driveway will kill it

Did aussie get any 3dr mk3s? at all? and if so is anyone doing any mods to them?
There is some real nice ones in the UK.
Not in the same league as mk1s or 2s imo and a bit more $ for them here
Its pretty much a daily for me, and is a nice cruiser on the open road

yeh we did get limited numbers of 2 door mk3's but only in the most basic trim... in Aus we never got a mk3 GTi!!!! only VR6's

The GTI was not sold new here either, apart from about 6 8v 5dr evaluation models that were bought in and sold, but the importer here went with selling the 3 & 5dr VR6 & GLI

The GTIs we have here now are second hand 95-98 16v 5dr jap imports.
And are being imported all the time. The 3dr GTI was not sold new in Japan

My 3dr is one of 3 8v GTI ex-uk imports here (that i know of) and it took me a year to find it a month ago it was an 8v now its a 16v
And is as close to factory 16v spec as can be.

In some other pics on this forum ive seen a maroon 5dr 16v GTI, where did that one come from? Is that the only GTI about? or are people who are moving to Australia (say, from the UK) bringing them in?

    I converted a 5dr 8v to 16v abf...

You might be able to dig up my thread about it...

Did you buy a wreck and just transfer everything over?

Did you swap the clutch from cable to hydro?

Tell all of us more about the conversion, I had good fun with mine!!!

Dude bought a front cut unseen from Japan and it was supposed to be a VR6. He fitted it anyway as it had already cost him money.

IMO the 16V is the one to get out of the MK3s, except maybe a 2.9 syncro which were LHD only. For me the VR although it makes a great noise was just too thirsty. The 16V might not have been quite as quick but could at least do 40 MPG on a run and maintain mid 30s most of the time. None of the mk3 8Vs I had ever had such good consumption as my 16V.

I would buy an Ibiza 16V in an instant just to get an ABF motor again.

See you guys got the Ibiza 16v as we didnt. Now that is a good car
Always preffered the 16v over the VR too

The swap was pretty much total, front off, dash out, carpet up, total loom swap from the front seats forward. A guy i know did the same job last year to a mk3 8v Variant and put a 16v in it so i gave him this job, would have liked to do it and would have learnt heaps (long story)

The donor 16v 5dr was an intact jap import (they can get pretty cheap here if you are in the right place at the right time) and the whole loom/dash/subframe/engine/box/radiator/front brakes/ABS controller/AC etc was swapped over. The previous owner had just done a new water pump and cambelt/tensioner ....cool huh

I gained a kph dash too as the ex-uk car was in miles and as far as we can make out, mk3s do not have a function to change the odo from miles to kms
to do this you need to swap the complete ECU over. And its sooooo nice driving a car with a Hydraulic clutch
