They both have the Aus' delivered, German built, BBS wheels, the difference in trim is just a facelift and prefacelift happened sometime in '96, there will be a few different touches all around the place, engine wise a different throttle body is the main difference also the ECU is a bit different the later model has a diagnostic port next to the ash tray behind a hidden panel, and the engine cover no longer lied about being DOHC as it's not a straight six. People often refer to the older one as OBD I and the newer OBD II, it's not 100% correct but at least it's something to go off if you want to find out about the differences.
South African ones came with 5 spoke wheels that I believe also came on early German ones, like '92, '93 that we didn't get, same specs as the BBS we got, I doubt yours would be SA it would have had to be imported and people dont generally bother importing cars if they can get the same thing here, and private imports from South Africans moving here would be pretty rare.
5K sounds like a decent price for all three.
If you were smart you could make two from three, and have a bit of cash in your back pocket![]()
Thanks for that VW Imposter, will have to wait to get the VIN numbers to run checks on where they are from, but as my partners family is SA, you never know what they have doneShouldnt matter too much as the 2 that I need to swap the engines over into are the same (ie external trims / vintage).
Jarred, that's the plan, to make 2 good ones and off load the other (more information in a couple of months about the 3rd one being offloaded)

It's been addressed many times before, but the later model will have 288mm front brakes, and the older 280mm.... plenty more little changes too.
Yeah, your right, all the South African models came with the 5 spoke rims, black plastic beading and all models had leather seats.
