This is definately the abridged version!
Nice to hear youre rolling again. Shame about the ride height!
Hey guys!
I haven't been posting much lately, but I've been active elsewhere.
The story starts just over 2 months ago, when the night before I'm due to fly to Japan for snowboarding, I get pulled over and defected and EPA'd. Fair enough, I had it coming...
So, I fixed the defect problems, got a RWC check, and there was still a decent list of things to do. Some minor, and others like new discs or pads. So, I fixed most of them, and took the car to the mechanic for the rest...
So far some of the things I've done include, but are not limited to: 4 new tyres on it, new windscreen, new pads and discs, new lifters and timing chain, new gaskets, new sensors, and standard springs were put in to my dislike, but anyways...
TODAY I finally got my RWC, and after after a bureaucratic mess up, and two vicroads offices, I finally cleared the defect. YAY! Went back to pick up the car, and drove it home. Regardless of it looking like a 4x4...
So, I gave it a once over, and BAM! Blown front right shock absorber. It appears that the misguided professional judgement of the mechanic, never took into account that I have a Sachs cup kit with matched lowered springs and lowered shocks. So, with the stock springs and lowered shocks, it appears to have "topped out", or over extended and blown a seal. So now theres a clear, thin oil covering my strut, hub and the inside of my wheel.
Mind you, my mech sold me that Sachs Kit, but said it was too low for RWC. Hence the reason for putting in standard springs.
So, now I'm in a pickle! I can't drive it too much, cause it pissin out oil. So I think I'll get some coilovers. Then, if any one is interested, I'll get the strut rebuilt and sell off the cup kit.
But there is some good news. I called Brian at GTI Imports in Sydney yesterday, and ordered a 16v Exhaust Manifold Flange and a gasket! Well, guess what?!?! It arrived TODAY!!! Brian was great and can be highly recommended!!!
So, I went to the exhaust shop and it's booked in next thursday to get a set of extractors made up and a centre muffler put it. The car is 12dB too loud!! HAHAHA!!!
So yeah!
The car is coming along!
In the near future (hopefully), I really need to do the following:
Full respray in same colour
Coilovers
Better brakes
Retrimmed VR interior
New 16" wheels
Some new lights (headlights, tails, fogs, etc...)
Until then, the car won't be going anywhere! No nats for 2008 as of yet...
Here's a pic of the exhaust flange ready to be welded up!
Thanks for everyone that's helped!
I just wish that some things just worked sometimes, but thats the roller coaster of life!
SEAN
This is definately the abridged version!
Nice to hear youre rolling again. Shame about the ride height!
Dam Sean that sux a$$! New lights? You not feeling the love with the FKs? I'm sure the 1 day turn around on the parts is a sign of good things to come, you must be due some good luck bruzz!
Let me know what you think of the coilovers when you get em in, been thinking about getting some myself lately.
2008 VRS Wagon. Yellow, very yellow!
Forever blowing bubbles.
bummer about that "mechanic" aye??
good to hear you rolling agian, but total bummer you wont be up for nats!! looks like it might be an all mk 1 affair!
Ahhhhhhhhh oh well... Will u get KW coilovers... Id love to see how they go!
So that's what's being going on Sean.
Sound's like you've been in the war's.
At least it's getting back on track.
Will be good to catch up.
WTF?? Sean thats some major BS that they raised your car. Cup kits are legal aren't they?? Why are you getting new 16's? What about some 17's? Also what scheme are you gonna go with on the respray? Paint the mouldings?
Good to hear everything's working out again. Perfect excuse for a new set of coilovers Does that mean you're still coming up for the Nats in the 16V?
mate im going to avoid that "mechanic" like the plague, if i were you i'd be making him buy me a new shock cos of his poor decision making
good to hear your back on the road mate
VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life
