In all seriousness I have no idea, but I wouldn't have thought so, Trucks have had them mounted to the sides for years with no issues. Racings cars also have had them mounted without problems. Although is there a "special" model that is more built for outside (or inside cars)?? Again I would say no, but don't know for sure.

I've had anti-fire bottles in 2 cars, one of which had no tint and regularly got left in full perth summer sun. Nothing happened.
Considering that the anti-fire powder is stored at 1000kpa inside the bottle, the actual bottle itself is ridiculously strong. I imagine at some point it would explode if heated up enough, but nothings happend in either of my cars in over 3 years.

The Answer is no.
They are meant to withstand heats of up to about 500 degrees C if i remember correctly. Doesn't anyone watch mythbusters? lol. Considering that a car can probably only get up to about 60 (if it was black and in direct sunlight) i'm pretty sure you would be safe.
No point having a fire safety device if it is going to contribute to the very thing it is supposed to prevent.... lol

I have ended up putting it in the back, mainly because it was easy. There was a few nice screws already on this side which happened to be in just the right places, so no extra holes were needed. Nice.

There are restrictions on the types of gas you can carry though.
Aerosols are OK but for OHS service companies may carry them in an esky.
LPG cylinders for portable BBQs up to 9kg are OK.
LPG Cylinders that are mounted in the car/caravan have to be in an approved "cupboard" that is sealed from the inside of the vehicle and vented to atmosphere.
LPG Cylinders that are part of the car's fuel system are obviously OK,subject to routine inspection and testing. A sticker must be placed on the numberplate to warn emergency services.
Flammable gasses such as Acetylene cannot be carried inside a vehicle.
A fire extinguisher is definitely allowed!
