I did the above mod as well (got a much tidier result, too) but cups only just fit in there, and there always seems to be something in the way, the cups lean backwards into the cubby so basically I wish I had never done it, and got some cheapies!

I bought a US cup holder too and thought I'd only need to cut off the clip on the front, since we have the hole on the left.
I was disappointed when I went to put it in and ...what?
Don't really want to have to take the console out and cut out the plastic. Has someone written a guide for this? Kinda bummed that I spent the money on the part and now have to do so much to use it.

Not really that much to do. you will need to take the console out (no way around that) however this literally takes a minute or two. you need to use a dremel and cut the front of the console to suit the angle of the u.s. spec cup holder as well as shave the bottom of the left and right side of the console to fit properly. took me all of 10 minutes. Unfortunately i shaved just a fraction to much off the front right corner so needed to use a little black silicone to fill, otherwise perfect. Holds 2 cans / coffee no probs. I know some people dont like em but i cant live without mine...

ah, cool, looked a bit more involved than just that. Will see if I can get around to doing it soon.

How the hell do I get this out? I've been trying for ages. Am I supposed the have some large metal bracket on the left of that bay? Seems to be preventing me from getting this out easily.

I give up. I might as well break the thing to get it out. I could just dremel it while it's in there right? I can get it up quite a bit but not out of the car. Unless someone here can give me a hand?

No cant dremel with it in, u need room to work the angles. The front you could possibly do but wouldn't be ideal when shaving the left and right inner sides to accommodate the cup holder. You will **** it up big time if u leave it in there.
From memory, 2 screws on each side of the centre console in the foot well, You will clearly see them, and i think the other one is under the rear ashtray and i believe you may need need to undo the bolt that holds the handbrake in. Cant remember as i did this some time ago. You mat be able to get away without undoing it but can make for a lot of fiddling unless you take both of your seats out. just easier to undo bolts and re connect

    In that photo.

I took the two side panel screws out. Took the handbrake cover off and the two screws where the gear changer is and the one screw on the end of plastic bit, next to the handbrake.
I had the whole thing loose except there doesn't seem to be enough clearance to get it out. My seat seems to be in the way, otherwise I could possibly turn it over to have it free from the handbrake and then pull it out.
I don't know how to remove the seat but that's all I can think that would let me get it out, like you said.

Unbolt handbrake and remove rear section with ashtray and it'll come out
