model variants ie electrics / ABs

GL electric mirros/windows, ABS, 4wheel disks, 2L engine

CL wind up windows, drum rear, nil ABS, 1.8 L engine

    ...is this about right?

from your discussions the window regulators appear dodgy with the years so i;d like to avoif that, and get a 1.8 L , but the ABS seems attrative as the 4wheel discs..

any input here accepted? not sure if ABS, and 4wheel discs a trade off for larger engine and dodgy electric windows/mirrors!!!

Window regulators aren't really that expensive to replace. That and I like power windows

If they do break and your really keen I suppose you could pull out the electric bits and replace with a winder, although I'm sure that it wouldn't save you that much. (if anything)

My VR6 has two windows that are noisy/suspect, although they are both rear windows and it's pretty much only me that drives in the car so they shouldn't be getting much worse in the near future. *crosses fingers*

Bigger engine + 4 wheel disc does it for me.

hey I've made the mistake of buying the wife a Golf

    Its a 1994 GL 2L 4cyl automatic.

does it have ABS??? We were trying to lock it up in the rain, shes learning to drive - we managed to get a bit of lock up out of it but it didnt go sideways.

her cars better optioned than mine.

electric windows, central locking, electric mirrors, air, 4 wheel disks, dual airbags, bigger engine...

I should have bought ME the Golf.

Hey while I'm here wheres the best place for 2nd hand parts? I'm needing drivers door central locking mechanism, and a passenger side headlight.

Welcome to the forums brian2196. AFAIK, GL did not come with ABS, or was an option. I don't have ABS with mine, but it stops really well.

As for 2nd hand parts, where are you located mate? If you're in the Sydney region, give Matt (Golf Loon on the forums) a call @ 0423051737. He should have the parts you're looking for and if not, could probably help you find them (for a good price if I may add).

    thanks

    I'll give him a call.

ventured into the local wreckers. a bit pricey..

I want to get a louder horn, the one on it goes "pooop" I like the one on my astra 2002 - which is quite loud and discordant, you can make people jump with it .lol..

he wanted $45 for the horn. As if theres not heaps of them sitting around unwanted.

and he offered a headlight for $180 which I thought was a good opportunity for me to spend too much. I said it didnt look the same and left.

    Check out FleeBay for headlights:
    http://search.ebay.com.au/search/sea...trypage=search

Lots of nice projector, halo, Mk4 look alikes, or even stock Mk3 ones if thats what floats your boat.

If your going to replace one, you may as well do both and get something shiny

ABS is on the later GLs and was an option on the earlier ones I reckon.

    Cruise was an option too.

Test drove white 97cl today (in the rain). v.impressed with engine and gearbox, brakes not to shabby either.
Conditions of vehicle let it down though, rubber seals missing off an indicator (oval), plus couldnt find the fuel cap cover release, realised it just pops out but seems to have a latch in there?
also the passenger side carpets were SOAKED. Couldnt belive it, seats and doors all dry. is this a common problem or any ideas?

think I;ll test a few others about brisbane first. This was $9400 on road for 66kwts of VW Golf mk3 power!
