    vr6 = 5x100 with approx 30 offset
    mk5 = 5x112 with approx 50 offset

    no go unless you redrill or get adaptors.

    and what if the offset is a bit bigger than 30? no probs right as long as the wheels fit in the gaurds?

    how wide rubber can you go with a standard vr6 before u start scrubbing out people?

    if you go too high offset the wheels will sit too far in under the guards and will most probably not fit due to hitting your suspension strut. you can use spacers to lower the offset and push them out a bit more.

    erm...ok, i assumed higher offset pushed wheels further out? i assumed wrong it seems??

    so slightly smaller offset would be ok if it doesnt scrun but higher offsel will look anemic and might not fit?

    correct.

    low offset = wheels sticking out more
    high offset = wheels tucking under the guard more

    here this should help you out. just when you are altering this picture in your head, the orange line (wheel spokes) is the fixed point and the barrel is the part that moves in and out with change in offset. i didn't understand 'til i saw this diagram either.
