OK. Update, managed to track down the polo shifter housing, base plate and lever from the U.k. delivered for $72 au's which is a steal considering VW au's want $220 for housing, $45 base plate and $55 for the lever. After much searching, turns out these 6n polo parts must come from a 6n polo TDI to work. Petrol polos have same shifter housing as a mk3. The TDI housing is a cross between a mk3 & mk 4 housing. You can swap out the mk4 shifter mechanism and cables to the polo TDI box and fit straight in. The TDI box is long line the mk4 but high like the mk3. More importantly. The 4 holes in the base of the housing line up exactly with the nk3 vr6 holes in the transmission tunnel. Mk4 stuff arrived from Melbourne in a few days and hope to have polo stuff by end of next week. Will keep posted
6n or 9n? Cos 6n feels like rubbish like the stock mk3
I was under the impression you want the 9n gti one or something like that...
I'm using the 6n polo shifter housing only. The shifter, shifter cables etc..are from an 02j 2001 mk4 2001 2.0l.
Yeah, ur def right, but the 6n turbo diesel isn't. Very different to a petrol 6n. Its like a hybrid of a mk3 housing and a mk4 housing. All the 02j stuff goes in easily and shifter changes perfectly. The housing itself is long like a mk4 02j but high with same mounting points as 02a. Saves having to cut tunnel, brackets, elongate studs and other muckig around to make the 02j fit. Less hassles, less mess. Not sure if thy even sold 6n TDI here, couldn't one so sourced and shipped from UK. I'll put a PIC up tomoz so u can see diff between 02a, 02j and 6n housing
